A lot of This is Incomplete

The Proof is in The Pudding

Updated pages are on the bottom menu item.

I started the engine and crawled all over it, I had a very slight leak from the sump, and a huge leak from the adapter;-( Figure 1 is the poxy oil leak..

I pulled the engine out and resealed it, I had glued the adapter on with Suzuki bond and there wasn't enough on it. I resealed it and put the motor back.

I ran it for an hour or so and I seem to have cured the leak, I wonder if I should have cut a groove to relive the oil back into the sump - down the side of the cap is a gap.

All the water and fuel pipes are fine.

I might have written on another page how I was driving the petrol landy around the M25 and suddenly there was a terrible ratteling, I thought the landy was falling to pieces. When I looked in the mirror there was a Montego behind me, a long way behind me, well they are even louder when they are in front of you, it's so loud it would wake a thing that is very unlikely to be disturbed by a very loud sound.

I bolted the floors back and went round tie wrapping everything that would vibrate, except the hard brake pipes, they must have been tied to the original battery box, they are miles to long and hang loose miles from anything stable to attach them to.

Figure 1. Drat, why didn't I seal it properly.

I will put new front brake pipes on it, it needs new flexis on the front anyway.

It's very noisy, I think there may be a problem with the fuel system, I have to say I am not to bothered by noise, as long as it's not a whiny axle or box. Though a bit of padding in the right places would cut the noise considerably, just getting rid of some of the rattles might improve things.

Figure 2 is the swap almost done, well I have tie wrapped everthing in sight, with extremely messy looking Dayglo tie wraps. I tied the speedo cable so there were no sharp bends, the speedo used to jump all over the place, it is nice and smooth now.

I need to move the clutch flexible, it's running along the bulkhead and down behind the fuel pipes and rubbing against the bulkhead.

I am running the fuel return straight back into the feed for the lift pump, well it seems to work I wasn't intending on doing this but thought I would try it.

Figure 2, almost completed engine bay.

I haven't put a sender in for the fan, or a fitting for the mechanical temp gauge. The fan is running, well would be run from the panel light switch on the dash and I had added an electric temp gauge previously - though I still had the mechanical gauge...

I need to put a fitting in to connect the mechanical oil pressure gauge...

well a week later and the head gasket was leaking, looking at the gasket it had been blowing on two cylinders for a while, so the engine will be smotther and more powerfull, nice - in my finest jazz voice.

nothing wrong with the motor, bore wear is almost non existant, cross hatching visible all the way to the top of the bores.

cylinder head is flat but is in need of a clean as it's etched where the gasket had gone and has some fretting where the fire ring is. the gasket had gone on the end cylinders out into the waterjacket. when I get my mill I will pull the head and surface it. providing the gasket lasts untill then..
