Perkins Prima Engine into Series Landrover Adapter Plate

Home

I have put some new Monty Conversipon pages together, till I finish them all these old pages will stay. Try HERE for the new pages.

I sent e-mail out to the people who expressed an interest saying this batch of castings would be ready a few weeks ago, well I decided to wait till the milling machine was in and running to bore the starter pads, hoping it would save a load of time, well I have them all done bar two bolt holes, I am waiting for a sherpa adapter to arrive so I know the location of these holes then they will be ready to go. I said I would do them at £175 + post, which will be £12+vat overnight, so that's £189 delivered in the UK.

Figure 1 is an almost finished adapter, you can see the two bosses for the 10 mm bolt holes either side of the top dowel hole. I could have just drilled them according to where Marko said they should go but I want to make sure I know where to put them..

Things I get asked about the adapter/conversion

I did engrave the website url in the pattern, but then I machined most of it off, I altered the amount of waste on the pattern but I still seem to have huge piles of swarf;-)

  • The adapter is cast from LM4 Aluminium, though I can have it in any grade available, at extra cost and no iron ones I am not covering my machines in that shit.
  • I have threaded these adapters 3/8 unc,so you can use the original studs, my adapter is threaded 10mm as I have heaps of 10 mm bolts and all the other threads in the adapters are metric.
  • The tdc locating hole is drilled in the adapter, not very good if it wasn't.
  • I would imagine 40mpg wouldn't be totally unreasonable, I got 34 mpg on a long trip at speed.
  • I can't do an adapter to go on a 6 cyl bellhousing, well I can but it would mean making some other bit's and probably more patterns and stuff. Get yourself another bellhousing - I could make a sherpa plate to series adapter?
  • Does it fit a series One, I am told Dudleigh Engineering say you can drill some holes out and it will bolt on, if the bolt holes are just in a different locations I can supply the adapter undrilled, or drill to a supplied housing.
  • If you have your own machinery I can supply the casting and the machining info.
  • I have altered the pattern to make use of several other 10 mm block bolts and removed the top two 12 mm bolt's, this made the casting a bit simpler, but it hasn't made it any cheaper, no I couldn't understand that one either.

Differances Between my own Adapter and The ones I now make

  • Two 12mm top block bolt bosses removed
  • Two extra 10mm mounting bolt's used
  • Wall thickness increased by 100thou
  • Boss included for threaded plug to block drain, wading plug.
  • Timing hole part threaded for 8 mm bolt, to seal it as above.

The next batch might have a few changes, someone has pointed out not all the ldv starters are the same, mine required the large bore in the lower figure on the right had a depth of .165", some of the starters require .5". Looks like the adapters will be machined for that depth from now on.

Update.

The last bacth of adapters litterly flew out of the workshop, even as far afield as Canada - lot's more noisy landrovers about now..

I have taken the pattern to the foundry to get another batch cast, they are on their 'summer hols' from the 28th July to 11 August, I suppose I will get the adapters back on the following Monday, so the soonest anycan be posted will be the week after - apart from unmachined ones..

prices..

The Adapters are now £190. packing and next day delivery is £12.56

Unmachined adapters will be £100 shipping as above, drawings will be available so you can machine them.

Instructions - well some suggestions - on machining and pdf or dxf drawings of the dimensions are in dxf and pdf format. I will sort out a good set of drawings, tidy up the diminsioning a bit and put them up as I do them. I will put another page on the main site menu for them.
